Lifting Arms
To keep the arm in good working order and to reduce
the amount of down time and the risk of accidents, a
preventive maintenance program must be
implemented and followed thoroughly.
Maintenance personnel must be familiar with the
operation of the arm, the safety around it and the
maintenance procedures described in this chapter.
Daily Inspection
On a daily basis, perform a visual inspection of the arm,
looking for leaks, cracks or premature wear of the
moving parts. For detailed information on greasing
points, see Lubrication on page 99.
To perform the daily inspection:
1. Start the engine and engage the hydraulic pump
(pump switch
ON).
2. Fully extend the arm.
3. Turn off the hydraulic pump and the engine.
4. Perform a visual inspection of the following items:

Always lock out and tag out the vehicle
when inspecting or performing
maintenance on it (see Locking Out and
Tagging Out the Vehicle on page 12)
Danger!
Do not stand directly in the path of the
arm while performing the inspection.
