Unlocking models with a latch-type lock
(ScanMaker II/IIXE, IIHR, E3, and E6)
1 With the scanner turned off, turn the scanner on its side and
locate the carriage lock at the bottom, which is held in place
by a piece of styrofoam. Remove the styrofoam.
2 The locking mechanism consists of a protruding handle on the
side and a square tab beside it. To release the carriage, push
the handle in (towards where the styrofoam used to be) and
simultaneously push up the square tab, going inside the lock
cavity.
When the mechanism won't go any further, the carriage has
been released.
