5 Replacing Parts and Upgrading ROM
5.1 Replacing the CPU Board
5.1.1 When the Existing EEPROM (M37) Is Normal
The EEPROM (M37) stores the PMT sensitivity (-HV SENS), grating wavelength table, calibration
data (e.g. mirror Hg position), operating time, and lamp lighting time. When the existing EEPROM
is re-mounted on a new CPU board, repairs can be made without any readjustments.
5.1.2 When the EEPROM (M37) Is Defective
Note) Wavelength calibration is required. So, the mercury lamp and mercury lamp holder jig is
required in the case of the RF-20A.
Open the instrument covers, read the -HV SENS.1, -HV SENS.2 and -HV SENS.3 values at (1)
PMT applied voltage (-HV) and the (2) LM INPUT value (mirror Hg position) on the labels fixed to
the monochromator unit, and enter the same values in the FACTORY mode.
You can manually enter the Xenon lamp lighting time when the instrument is started up in the
FACTORY mode. Manually enter the lighting time if the lighting time of the Xenon lamp currently
in use is known. The reason for entering the lighting time is to prevent use of the Xenon lamp
beyond its limit (2500 hours of operation). Use beyond this limit will cause it to burst, which is
dangerous. So, inquire, for example, by asking the customer to obtain the approximate time used
so far. Entering this approximate time is acceptable.
Perform automatic wavelength calibration. The mercury lamp and mercury lamp holder jig are
required in the case of the RF-20A.
5.2 Replacing the High-Voltage Cable
Fasten a cable band as shown in the photo below at a length on the high-voltage cable that will not
result in the cable sagging up to the Xenon lamp.
Note) Before replacing the high-voltage cable, allow the Xenon lamp to cool down sufficiently.
Also, disconnect the power cable beforehand.
