Deningthemiddlepositionofthetransducer
ThehullunitprovidedwiththeSU90isdesignedtolowerthetransducerdownbelow
theship’shullwhentheSU90shallbeused.WhentheSU90isswitchedoff,the
transducerishoistedforprotection.TheSU90allowsyoutodeneamiddleposition
forthetransducer.
Prerequisites
Thephysicalpropertiesofthehullunitinstallationareknown.
Thecorrecttypeofhullunitisselected.
Thevesselisberthedoratsea.
Context
Themiddlepositionisnotaxedlength.Thephysicalmiddlepositiondependson
whichtypeofhullunityouareusingwiththeSU90.
RetractingthetransducertoamiddlepositionmaybeusefulifyouusetheSU90
simultaneouslywithothersonars.Ahigherpositionwillpermityoutoincreasethe
vesselspeed.Ifyouoperateinveryshallowwaters,youmayalsoreducetherisk
ofhittingbottom.However,placingthetransducerimmediatelyunderthehullmay
increasetheownoise.
Caution
Ifthetransducerhitslargerobjectsorbottom,thetransducershaftmaybebent,or
-inworstcase-itcanbebrokenoff.Abrokentransducershaftwillcausewater
leakagethroughthetopoftheshaft.Ifyoususpectthatthetransducershaftisseriously
damagedwithholes,donot
retractthetransducertoitsupperposition.
Topreventseriousdamagetothevesselorthevesselstability,youmusthaveawater
pumpandawarningsysteminthesonarroom.
Selectthemiddlepositioncarefully.Thepositionisnormallyselectedtoplacethe
transducerjustunderthekeel,butlowenoughtopreventechoesfromthetrunk.Once
thepositionisselected,makesurethatthesystemprotectionfunctionalitydoesnot
inhibittransmission.
