TELOS TWOX12 USER’S MANUAL
TECHNICAL DATA & TROUBLESHOOTING
CHAPTER 8 152
Any other ISDN troubleshooting Tips?
An important tool is the TWOx12’s integrated ISDN analyzer. This enables you to look at the
transactions between the Telco line and the TWOx12, so that a judgment can be made as to
whether the problem lies within the TWOx12 or with the programming of the Telco switch.
The usual cause of inability to dial problems is a Telco problem, such mis-programming.
If you are convinced that the problem lies with the ISDN line configuration, you may be able
to convince the Telco to have an engineer look at the line with an analyzer. This works much
like the TWOx12’s internal analyzer, but with more detail, and in a format that is more
readily understandable by telephone people. This procedure may sometimes be the only way
to get attention to a line problem. It is hard to deny evidence provided by their own gear.
In rare cases, there could be a software bug in the TWOx12 that reacts badly to something
coming from the ISDN line. Telos customer support will communicate the problem to our
engineering guys for resolution. See section 7.41 for information on connecting to the
TWOx12’s serial port and using the command line interpreter to turn on ISDN logging. The
most useful logs to enable for this purpose are 3, 4, 5, & 6 .
8.5 Troubleshooting Desktop Director Problems
Most problems with the Desktop Directors are cable related. First try a new cable. If that fails
to solve the problem try the Desktop Director with a short cable plugged directly into each of
the Director Ports (slot F) on the back of the TWOx12.
Section 2.7 has details on the allowable wiring configurations for the Desktop Directors.
There are distance and wiring restrictions. Note that when two Directors share a single port
an external power supply is required and the termination resistor must be remove on the
power supply closer to the power supply.
8.6 Gaining Access
TO PREVENT RISKS OF
ELECTRIC SHOCK,
DISCONNECT POWER
CORD BEFORE SERVICING
The installation and servicing instructions in this manual are for use by
qualified personnel only. To avoid electric shock do not perform any ser-
vicing other than that contained in the Operating Instructions unles s you
are qualified to do so. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
CAUTION
Removal of the top plate is the first step to gaining access for service. Remove the 7 (more on
some units) Philips head screws.
