10.2 Troubleshooting the Oil Burner
Problem / Symptom Reason Remedy
The burner does not start. Improper switch position or
protective function action.
Verify that the breaker is
ON. Verify that the HTF
level is within range and low
level shutdown device is
reset (low level indicator
light must be OFF).
The over-temperature limit
has tripped.
Allow the burner to cool.
The burner primary control
is in lockout mode.
Reset the burner control.
The burner starts; the flame
does not ignite.
There is no fuel. Fill fuel tank.
The burner nozzle is dam-
aged or worn.
Replace the burner nozzle.
The electrodes are defec-
tive.
Replace the electrodes.
The cadmium cell is mal-
functioning.
Replace the cadmium cell.
The burner primary control
is malfunctioning.
Replace the burner primary
control.
The burner starts and the
flame ignites, but the unit
locks out.
The fuel pressure is set
incorrectly.
Adjust the fuel pressure.
The burner nozzle is dam-
aged or worn.
Replace the burner nozzle.
The air damper is set incor-
rectly.
Adjust the air damper.
The cadmium cell is mal-
