122 Chapter 6 – Color Workflow
Calibration
Overview
One of the most important issues in obtaining satisfactory print quality is steady
toner density. Toner density is affected by many factors such as heat, humidity, and
service settings. You should perform a daily calibration to compensate for these
factors.
The calibration process corrects the printer colors by measuring their density and
creating calibration look-up tables. The Spire CX260 uses the data in these tables to
compensate for the differences between the actual, measured density level and the
target level, the target density.
You should perform calibration in the following instances:
When you use a new paper stock
At least once during every eight-hour shift for every combination of paper stock
and screening method used
When prints show color casts
After machine maintenance or hardware changes—for example, replacing a
photoreceptor
When drastic ambient changes (temperature and humidity) occur
There are two types of calibration:
Off-the-glass calibration—this option is available for all Spire CX260
configurations. For more information, see Off-the-glass Calibration on page 122.
Calibration using the Eye-One spectrophotometer—this option is available only
if you have the Pro Basic or Pro Control Station configuration. For more
information, see Eye-One Spectrophotometer Calibration on page 125.
Off-the-glass Calibration
You can perform Off-the-glass calibration from the Spire CX260 or from the Xerox
DocuColor 242/252/260 printer/copier’s touch screen using Spire Web Services.
The section describes the procedures for performing Off-the-glass calibration from
the Spire CX260. For more information about Spire Web Services, see Spire Web
Services on page 31.
Important: Perform a different calibration for every combination of media and
screen type that you are going to use for printing. When calibrating, always
use the same media that you intend to use for printing.
Ti p : You can set a reminder to remind you to calibrate the Xerox DocuColor
242/252/260 printer/copier. For more information, see Calibration Reminder
on page 172
