F-FEM-CON — Users Guide
which starts at the point of minimal input voltage and its code and goes to the
point of maximum input voltage and its code.
JTAG
Joint Test Action Group
Test method for checking the production quality and possibilities for commis-
sioning and debugging. Is described in the IEEE1149.1 standard.
No Missing Code
All codes are output when the input area will drive through. This requires a differ-
ential non-linearity of less than 1 LSB. In the case of the ADC AD7714 24-bits
are possible when the noise is completely filtered.
On Chip
Calibration
The offset and gain errors of each ADC channel will be adjusted at each initial-
ization of a sensor. This is done via the Firmware and the AD Converter chip.
Oversampling with
digital filtering
The entered signal is digitally filtered and then reduced to the desired data rate.
The signal is sampled at a rate several times higher than the double bandwidth
of the signal. Thus the input filter can be simpler.
Pick-up
General term for (speed) encoder.
POI
PUMA Operator Interface.
PUMA Open
Test bed and instrumentation automation system.
Repeater
Amplifier and pulse shaper for the extension of lines which carry digital signals. A
repeater acts like an IEEE1394 node.
The entered signal is digitally filtered and then reduced to the desired data rate.
The signal is sampled at a rate that is several times higher than the double band-
width of the signal. Thus, a simple input filter is sufficient.
Sigma Delta
Principle;
Oversampling
This means a 1 bit signal with very high frequency (e.g. ADC with analog modu-
lator that contains 1 bit ADC) generated by a modulator. The average value of
the 1 bit of signal is strictly proportional to the analog input signal of the modu-
lator. A digital filter reduces the bit stream to the desired data rate. This method
is also called oversampling. For each duplication of the scanning rate one wins
additionally 15 dB at resolution (modulator second order). This type of 1 bit ADC
possesses excellent linearity. Thus the digital filter takes over the function of the
antialiasing filter. Thereby the analog input filter can become simpler.
Strain gauge
Usually a load cell.
TDC
Top Death Center.
VCXO
Voltage controlled quartz oscillator
Watchdog live
This signal can be used by the automation system to indicate the proper func-
tioning of the system.
WD
Watch dog
Zero track
A speed encoder with a zero track (Z) can detect a reference mark. The zero
track indicates e.g. the top dead center (reference pulse).
