F-FEM-CON — User’s Guide
4 Operation
Its many different input and output channels make the F-FEM-CON a versatile
module. To find the best settings for a given application, it is necessary to under-
stand the functioning of the module. The block diagrams given in the next
section show the most important elements.
The description has been organized according to functional groups.
4.1 Analog Inputs
The F-FEM-CON module is equipped with five analog inputs, four of which can
be parameterized as universal current or voltage channels. The fifth channel is
particularly suitable for the measurement of small voltages in connection with a
strain gauge. For further information, please refer to Analog Input Load Cell on
page 44.
Each of the 5 analog channels of the F-FEM-CON is equipped with an Analog
Digital Converter (ADC). A brief overview of ADC features is given below:
Sigma-delta principle
– 24 bit no missing codes
– 0.0015 % typical nonlinearity
Oversampling with digital filtering
Differential inputs
Programmable sampling rate with filter cut-off frequency.
On-chip calibration for offset and gain errors of the ADC
No external anti-aliasing filter is required. Because of the high oversampling
and the subsequent digital filtering, a simple RC filter at the input is suffi-
cient.
