Expert - Administration - Upgrade Firmware
An administrator can select Expert - Administration - Upgrade Firmware to configure an
automated upgrade of the console server’s firmware, which includes the Kernel, applications and
configuration files. The firmware can be upgraded from an FTP server.
NOTE: Check the file name for the upgrade version and read the upgrade instructions carefully. Different
procedures are required depending on the current version.
To upgrade the console server firmware [Expert]:
Use this procedure to upgrade to the latest release of the console server firmware. The upgrade
installs the software on the Flash memory.
1. Select Expert - Administration - Upgrade Firmware. The Upgrade Firmware screen appears.
2. Choose FTP from the Type menu. (FTP is the only supported type).
3. Enter the URL of the FTP server in the FTP Site field.
4. Enter the username and password recognized by the FTP server in the Username and Password
fields.
5. Enter the pathname of the file on the FTP server in the Path and Filename field.
6. Click the Upgrade Now button.
7. Click cancel changes if you need to restore the backed up configuration files.

Field/Menu Name Definition
Type FTP is the only supported type.
FTP Site The URL of the FTP server where the firmware is located. http://www.avocent.com/web/
en.nsf/Content/Cyclades_Download-ACS5000 is available for downloading firmware
upgrades.
Username Username recognized by the FTP server. The Cyclades FTP username for download is
anonymous.
Password Password associated with the username. Any password is accepted for anonymous
login.
Path and File Name The pathname of the firmware on the FTP server. The filename includes the version
number in the following format: zImage_acs5000_100.bin.
Run Checksum Runs the checksum program to verify the accuracy of the uploaded data.
