To configure a serial port login authentication method:
This procedure configures an authentication method that applies to logins to devices connected to
serial ports. An administrator can configure the same method for all ports or different methods for
individual ports or groups of ports.
1. Select Expert - Ports - Physical Ports, select a port or ports to modify and click Modify
Selected Ports.
2. Click the Access tab.
3. To select an authentication method, select one of the options in the Type menu.
4. Click Done.
5. Click apply changes. The changes are stored in the /etc/portSlave/pSlave.conf file on the
console server.
6. Make sure that an authentication server is specified for the selected authentication type.
The following table lists the procedures for each authentication method.
NOTE: Select a DSView authentication method in the Type menu only if the console server is managed by a
DSView 3 server.
Ports - Physical Ports - Data Buffering
An administrator can select Expert - Ports - Physical Ports - Data Buffering to enable and
configure data buffering and send buffered data to a syslog server. Different fields appear on this
screen when one or both options are enabled. The screen displays Enable Data Buffering and
Buffer to Syslog checkboxes.
If data buffering is enabled, the screen displays different fields depending on whether Local or
Remote are selected from the Destination menu.
