2. To configure a static IP address, make sure the DHCP checkbox is cleared. Additional fields
appear.
3. Enter a name for the console server in the Host Name field.
4. (Optional) Enter a console banner in the Console Banner field.
5. Under Ethernet Port, complete or edit the following fields, as necessary.
a. Enter the IP address of the console server in the Primary IP field.
b. Enter the netmask in the Network Mask field.
c. Specify the desired maximum transmission unit in the Maximum Transmission Unit field.
6. Under DNS Service, specify or change the following information, if desired.
a. Enter the address of the domain name server in the Primary DNS Server field.
b. If there is a backup DNS server, enter the address of the secondary DNS in the Primary
DNS Server field.
c. Enter the domain in the Domain Name field.
d. Enter the IP address of the gateway in the Gateway IP field.
7. Click apply changes.
Expert - Network - Syslog
An administrator can select Expert - Network - Syslog to configure the following aspects of how the
console server handles system log messages for ports connected to device consoles.
One or more syslog servers to receive syslog messages related to ports.
Rules for filtering messages.
The facility number for the messages from device consoles. Obtain the facility numbers from
the syslog server administrator.
A destination for syslog messages:
The console port - to enable logs of the messages even if no user is logged in.
To all sessions where the root user is logged in.
To one or more syslog servers.
To configure syslogging for serial ports and specify message filtering [Expert]:
1. Select Expert - Network - Syslog. The Syslog screen appears.
2. To select a facility number for messages generated by serial ports, select the number from the
CAS Ports Facility pull-down menu.
3. To select a destination for the syslog messages, click the checkbox next to one or all of the
options: Console, Root User or Server.
4. To add a syslog server to the Syslog Servers list, enter its IP address in the New Syslog Server
field and click Add.
5. Configure the message filtering to your requirements.
