a. To create a regular user account without administrator privileges, select Regular User
from the Group pull-down menu.
b. To create an account with administrator privileges, select Admin from the Group pull-
down menus.
5. Enter the default shell in the Shell field (optional).
6. (Optional) Enter comments to identify the job or the user in the Comments field.
7. Click OK.
8. Click apply changes.
To change a password:
CAUTION: Leaving the default admin password (avocent) unchanged leaves the console server and connected
devices open to anyone who knows the default password and the IP address. For better security, change the
admin password from the default as soon as possible.
1. Select Wizard - Step 3: Access. The Access screen appears.
2. Select the name of the user whose password you wish to change.
3. Click Change Password. The Change User Password dialog box appears.
4. Enter the new password in both fields and click OK.
5. Click apply changes.
Step 4: Data Buffering
An administrator can select Step 4: Data Buffering in Wizard mode to save a record of all
communication with serial ports. Data buffer files can be stored either in local files on the Flash
memory or on the hard disk of an NFS server. If Enable Data Buffering is selected, different fields
appear when the selected Destination is Local or Remote.
NOTE: Values configured on this screen apply to all serial ports. To configure a syslog server to store buffered
data, an administrator can select Expert - Ports - Physical Ports - Modify Selected Ports - Data Buffering.

Field name Definition
Destination Location for storing the buffer file: Local (to Flash) or Remote (to an NFS server).
When Remote is selected, data is stored sequentially. The NFS server must be
configured with the mount point shared (exported).
