Ports - Physical Ports - General connection protocols for terminals
When a terminal is connected to the console port on
a device, an administrator must select one of
the connection protocols described in the following table from the Ports - Physical Ports - General
screen. When the terminal connected to the selected port is turned on, the console server opens a
connection of the specified type between the terminal and a remote server. The administrator must
also specify the TCP port number, the terminal type and the IP address for the server on the Ports -
Physical Ports - Other screen.

The following table shows the connection protocols that ca
n be selected when a modem or IPDU is
connected to a serial port.
Console (Raw) Authorized users can make a Raw Socket connection to the console of the
connected device.
Table 9.3: Available Connection Protocols When Terminal is Connected to a Serial Port
Protocol Name Result
Telnet When the terminal connected to the selected port is turned on, the console server opens
a Telnet connection between the terminal and the specified server.
SSHv1 When the terminal connected to the selected port is turned on, the console server opens
an SSHv1 connection between the terminal and the specified server.
SSHv2 When the terminal connected to the selected port is turned on, the console server opens
a SSHv2 connection between the terminal and the specified server.
Local Terminal When the terminal connected to the selected port is turned on, the console server opens
a Telnet session between itself and the terminal. The user then can use any of the
console server Linux commands. If a terminal profile menu has been configured (under
Expert - Applications - Terminal Profile Menu), the user can select and quickly launch
sessions on any number of remote hosts.
Raw Socket When the terminal connected to the selected port is turned on, the console server opens
a Raw Socket session on the specified server.

PPP-No Auth Starts a PPP session without interactive authentication required. Assumes the
specified console server serial port is connected to an external modem.
PPP Starts a PPP session with authentication required. Assumes the specified
console server serial port is connected to an external modem.
