The number of the selected port or ports appears next to the Done button at the bottom of the screen
in the format: Selected ports #:N, where N stands for the port number.
An administrator must select a connection protocol for each port based on the type of connected
device, whether it is a device console, a terminal, a modem or an IPDU.
Connection protocols for device consoles
When a serial port is connected to the console port on
a device, an administrator can select a
protocol with the Console suffix [such as Console (Telnet)] from the Connection Protocol pull-
down menu.
• When a user accesses a serial port through the Web Manager, the specified protocol is used to
connect to the console of the connected device.
• When a user logs in remotely to the serial port, access is allowed only for the selected protocol.
If another protocol is used, access is denied. For example, if you specify the Console (SSH)
protocol, the user can use SSH but cannot use Telnet to access the serial port.
The following table describes the options from the list of connection protocols when the console
server serial port is connected to the console port of a server or a device.

Protocol Name Result
Console (Telnet) Authorized users can use Telnet to connect to the console of the connected
device.
Console (SSH) Authorized users can use SSH to connect to the console of the connected device.
Console (TelnetSSH) Authorized users can use Telnet or SSH to connect to the console of the
connected device. When the multiple sessions feature is configured,
simultaneous Telnet and/or SSH sessions are allowed.
