1
Introduction
Overview
Each model in the Cyclades ACS 5000 advanced console server series is a 1U appliance that serves
as a single access point to access and manage connected devices.

NOTE: References to ACS 5000 console servers in this document include all models in the 5XXX series.
CAT 5 cables are used to connect target devices (such as servers, routers or terminals) to the serial
ports on the console server. Modems can be connected to serial ports for dial-in access, and power
devices can be connected to serial ports for power management.
The console server provides secure local (console port) and remote (IP and dial-up) access.
Administration is performed either with the Web Manager, with commands or with the CLI utility
invoked in the console of the Linux-based operating system. Local and remote authentication, data
logging and event notifications can be configured.
ACS 5000 console servers can also be managed through DSView
®
3 management software version
3.4.1 and greater.
