11.2 Fuses
A distinction is made between protecting the power supply cables and protecting the de-
vice. To fulfill CE specifications – here in particular EN 60204-1 – fuse the power supply
cables.
.
Cable protection
Use safety fuses of the operating class gL DIN VDE 0636-201 / IEC 60269-2-1 / HD
630.2.1 54 or circuit breaker triggering characteristic K, in accordance with DIN VDE
0636-201 / IEC 60269-2-1 / HD 630.2.1 54, to protect the cable. These fuses protect
against overloads and consequential damage from defects, for example as a result of fire.
However, they cannot prevent a device from being extensively destroyed in case of a
short circuit or ground fault in the DC link.
Carry out the fusing in accordance with EN 60204-1 („Electrical Equipment of Machines“).
Dimension the cable fuse based on the cross-section of the power supply cable used, and
in accordance with the respective applicable national standards and local regulations.
The current-carrying capacity of the cables is specified in Table 5 of EN 60204-1. For your
application, the corresponding value must still be determined based on the standard itself,
i.e. taking into account the cable routing.
NOTE!
T
he fuse specification are valid for basic units, only.
NOTE!
Approved, UL-listed safety fuses and/or circuit breakers must be used in UL-autho-
rized systems.
NOTE!
Use suitable fuses with the tripping characteristic gL or gR.
