Half Bridge Connections
The half bridge configuration employs two identical strain gages connected to the
EXC+, EXC- and IN- inputs as shown. A three-conductor cable is required and a
shielded cable is recommended for long runs. Because there are identical
components (presumably mounted in the same environment) in the upper and
lower half of the bridge circuit, temperature effects are cancelled out.

This circuit can actually be employed in two manners. The second gage can be
installed near the active gage but perpendicular to it. When installed in this
manner, the second gage provides temperature compensation to the active gage.

Such an installation is called a Type 1 Half Bridge installation. The second gage
is sometimes erroneously called a dummy gage, but it is more properly termed a
