does not respond to axial strain. Two of the gages are mounted on the surface
above the neutral axis of bending and two mounted below it on the opposing face.
Using circuit locations of figure X11, the gauges are physically mounted as shown
in figure X12
Type 2 orients the sensitive axis of one gage in the primary strain direction and
one perpendicular to it on each of the surfaces bounding the neutral axis. By
wiring the gauges as shown in figure X12, a bridge sensitive to bending but not to
axial extension. The type 2 bridge is less sensitive than the type 1, it has a
sensitivity of GF (1) V
in
/2.
Type 3 has the same arrangement of the strain gages as type2, but they are
connected differently as shown in figure X12. This results in a bridge sensitive to
axial strain that rejects bending strain. Its sensitivity is also GF (1) V
in
/2
μV/microstrain.
