The above FFT waterfall presents a sequence of Amplitude-versus-Frequency
traces, each measured at a different operating RPM. The horizontal axis of the 3D
RPM Spectrum is frequency. The vertical trace amplitude is in G’s (or some other
vibration transducer’s units). The inclined z-axis is representing RPM, with
constant ΔRPM spacing between the traces. A color map can also be used to
describe the magnitude of the whole range as shown below.
