System Board
Removing a System Board
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You
should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your
product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and
support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not
covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with
the product.
1 Remove the system-board assembly. See “Removing a System-Board
Assembly" on page 163.
2 Remove the air baffle. See Removing the Air Baffleon page 165.
3 Remove the expansion-card assembly. See Removing the Expansion
Card” on page 176.
4 Remove the heat sinks. See “Removing the Heat Sink” on page 167.
5 Remove the memory modules. See Removing the Memory Modules
on page 232.
6 If installed, remove the SAS mezzanine card, 1GbE mezzanine card, or
10GbE mezzanine card. See “Removing the LSI 2008 SAS Mezzanine
Card” on page 214, “Removing the 1GbE Mezzanine Card” on page
221 and “Removing the 10GbE Mezzanine Card” on page 224.
7 Disconnect all the cables from the system board.
8 Remove the eight screws and then slide the system board. See Figure 3-
61.
CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by grasping a memory module, processor,
or other components.
9 Grasp the system board by the edges and lift the system board away
from the system-board assembly. See Figure 3-61.
