2.11.8 Remote Variable Fields
Access Level: Read–3
When Activate Timing is On, the Remote Variable Fields parameter
reports the time it takes to process a remote Update Variable Fields
message (ASCII Comms or Host port). The time includes the
following:
• the time to update the label data in the Format file.
• the time to re-render all of the fields specified.
• the time to create the slant images (if in Slant mode) for the
printheads affected.
• the time to save all bar code data and swap Render/Print buffers.
The time does not include the time to copy the Print buffer to the
Render buffer. For the Host port, this includes the time to reply with
a Status response message.
For a new job selected at the user interface module, the total time to
select it includes Label Rendering and Swap Image Buffer times.
The time to print a label is reflected by the Printing (PH x) times.
Since the printheads print asynchronous to each other, the total print
time cannot be determined by simply adding up the printing times.
Currently there is no means to determine the total printing time. If
the job has incremental fields (Incremental, SSCC), there must be
enough slack time between printed labels to update the incremental
fields, represented by the Incremental Update time. If the job has
time fields (BBE, Time/Date), there must be enough slack time
between printed labels to update the time fields, represented by the
total of Time Scanning + Time Updating times.
