Patient preparation for CO2 monitoring
The following tips provide optimal monitoring
results but must never replace hospital-approved
practices or manufacturer’s recommendations.
A default O2 concentration of 21% (the percentage
of oxygen in ambient air) for all CO2 measurements
is assumed. If the patient is receiving supplemental
oxygen or N2O or Heliox, select the gas that is
being administered in the CO
2 setup page. Make
sure to manually adjust the ambient pressure to the
actual measurement value. Automatic ambient
pressure compensation is not provided. Failure to
compensate for supplemental gases results in
inaccurate measurement values.
When switching adapter types (from reusable to
disposable or adult to pediatric, or vice versa),
there is no need to re-zero a Dräger sensor. If the
sensor window is clean and the correct sensor type
is selected under the Airway adapter CO
2
Mainstream setting, only zero a Dräger sensor
when the measurement value is suspect or when
prompted to re-zero.
