1.5 Error Conditions
When the error conditions described in the followin
sections occur, the
printer stops acceptin
data, sets the interface ERROR si
nal to LOW
and the Bus
si
nal to HIGH, and stops printin
. See Section 1.4.3 for
information on the status of the LED indicators durin
various error
states.
1.5.1 Ink Out
When the printer is almost out of an
color of ink, the appropriate Ink
Out indicator
black or color
flashes and the printer keeps on printin
.
When the printer is out of either ink color, it stops printin
and the
appropriate Ink Out indicator remains on. Install a new ink cartrid
e at
this time.
Here’s wh
:
1. Once the cartrid
e has been removed, air enters the cartrid
e and
the printhead, and bubbles that form can prevent the printhead from
dischar
in
ink properl
. On the other hand, the air that enters
durin
installation of a new ink cartrid
e can be absorbed into the
ink itself, since the ink in the cartrid
e has been de-aerated durin
the production process. However, the ink’s abilit
to absorb air lasts
for onl
about one hour after the cartrid
e has been installed.
2. As lon
as the ink cartrid
e remains installed in the printer, air
cannot enter the printhead. However, if an old ink cartrid
e is
removed from the printer, an
air enterin
the cartrid
e can never be
full
absorbed into the ink. As a result, the ink will thicken and
bubbles will form. If thickened ink
ets into the printhead, it can clo
the ink path or nozzle and cause serious printhead dama
e.
3. Normall
, the ink consumption counter is reset when the ink
cartrid
e is removed. If an ink cartrid
e is removed and reinstalled
unnecessaril
, the ink consumption counter will have the wron
value, and the printer ma
keep printin
even thou
h the inkstalled
ink cartrid
e is empt
. This can dama
e the printhead.
1.5.2 Paper Out
When the printer is printin
and fails to load a sheet of paper after all
power-on operations
includin
timer clearin
are done, or after
ou
press the Load/E
ect button and the paper fails to load, the printer
indicates a paper out error.
1.5.3 Paper Jam
When the printer cannot e
ect a sheet of paper after printin
, or when
the Load/E
ect button on the control panel is pressed, the printer
indicates a paper
am error.
CAUTION
Never reinstall an ink cartridge that has been removed
from the printer. Installing an old ink cartridge
interferes with the printer’s ink level detection
capability and may cause serious printing problems.
