5.2 Adjustments
The sections below provide specific instructions for each t
pe of
ad
ustment.
5.2.1 Parallelism Adjustment
You must perform the parallelism ad
ustment after replacin
or
removin
the carria
e
uide shaft, or if
ou chan
e the settin
of the
parallelism ad
ustment bushin
s. This ad
ustment sets the standard
distance from the printhead to the paper surface.
1.
Set the ri
ht and left parallelism ad
ustment bushin
s to the center
position mark. This is where the rid
e on the top of each bushin
ali
ns with the notch and the screw hole on the metal frame. See
Fi
ure 5-2.
Right Parallelism Adjustment
2.
Set the PG lever to 0
forward
. This minimizes the
ap between
the printhead and the platen.
3.
Move the carria
e to the center of the platen. Then set the
thickness
au
e on the ri
ht side of the platen as shown in Fi
ure
5-1 on the next pa
e.
4.
Move the carria
e so it’s over the thickness
au
e.
5.
Move the ri
ht parallelism ad
ustment bushin
to the rear, which
narrows the
ap, until the thickness
au
e moves with the carria
e
when
ou slide the carria
e about 1 inch
20 mm
in either direction.
6.
Move the ad
ustment bushin
one notch forward to widen the
ap.
7.
Set the PG lever to 0
small
ap
and slide the carria
e ri
ht and left
to make sure that the thickness
au
e doesn’t move with the
carria
e.
Left Parallelism Adjustment
8.
Perform steps 2 throu
h 7 to ad
ust the left parallelism ad
ustment
bushin
. But this time set the thickness
au
e on the left side of the
platen
see Fi
ure 5-1
.
Checking parallelism
9.
Perform steps 2 throu
h 4 a
ain, with the thickness
au
e set on
the ri
ht side of the platen.
10.
Make sure that the thickness
au
e does not move alon
with the
carria
e when the carria
e is moved about 1 inch
20 mm
in either
direction.
11.
Move the ri
ht parallelism ad
ustment bushin
one notch to the rear
the
ap will be narrowed
. Then check that the thickness
au
e
moves alon
with the carria
e. If the thickness
au
e does not
move,
o back to step 2 and repeat the ad
ustment.
CAUTION
Do not scratch the ribbed surface of the platen or the
special coating on the PF roller.
To avoid damaging the printhead, never use a rusty,
dirty, or bent thickness gauge. Clean the gauge
before using it, and avoid pressing it hard against the
head.
CAUTION
Put the thickness gauge on the flat part of the
platen ribs, as shown in
Fi
ure 5-1
.
Move the carriage by pulling it with the timing
belt.
