Karvonen Formula
The [ Tools ] menu is available on all tabs
of the ers. 2 software. Via [ Tools ] you can
configure the Karvonen formula.
The Karvonen formula is used to de-
termine the optimal heart rate (HR) for
different forms of exercise. This value is
different for each patient.
The formula takes the patient‘s resting
heart rate (HR at Rest) and maximum
heart rate (HR max.) into account. The
factor for the training intensity is indi-
cated as a percentage.
ExpLanations
Borg Rating
The Borg rating is an evaluation of the
patient‘s perceived exertion during the
physical exercise phase (the patient‘s
own impression of how hard and stren-
uous the required exercise level is). The
scale ranges from 0 to 20 (no exertion at
all to maximum exertion). The patient is
asked to describe the degree of perceived
exertion and rate it using the Borg scale.
