To ensure reliable operation of these seals, the gear unit must be permanently installed in a
horizontal position and not exposed to waste water or high dust loads. Overfilling the gear
unit can result in leaks, the same applies to oil with a high foam content.
3.6.3 Taconite seal3.6 Shaft seal
The Taconite seal is a combination of two sealing elements:
Rotary shaft sealing ring to prevent the escape of lubricating oil
Grease-filled dust seal (comprising a labyrinth and a lamellar seal) to allow operation of
the gear unit in extremely dusty environments
The Taconite seal is ideal for use in dusty environments.
NOTICE
Gear unit leaks caused by poor sealing
Regrease the labyrinth seals at the specified regreasing intervals. The regreasing intervals
are specified in the Maintenance schedule (Page87).
