Drive cycle
Period and conditions allowing ECUs to complete the test or sequence of tests required to detect all
types of faults on their systems revealing the presence or absence of a potential anomaly.
The test cycle consists of an engine starting, driving the vehicle and stopping the engine (with increase
in temperature of cooling liquid and lubricants).
It is advisable that the dierent types of driving (urban and motorways) be part of the same drive cycle.
For conrmation, some require at least two drive cycles. To ensure conrmation of a fault, in general, it
is suggested to use the vehicle normally (including drive cycles) over a period of one week.
Note : The ideal drive cycle varies depending on the vehicle, the driving conditions and the anomaly
to be detected.
