Check the fluid level regularly and add distilled
water as required so that the fluid level is
between the [UPPER] and [LOWER] levels.
WARNING
To avoid personal injury or death:
Never remove the battery cap while the engine
is running.
Keep the electrolyte away from eyes, hands,
and clothes. If you are spattered with the
electrolyte, wash it away completely with water
immediately and get medical attention.
Keep open sparks and flames away from the
battery at all times. Hydrogen gas mixed with
oxygen becomes very explosive.
Wear an eye protection and rubber gloves when
working around the battery.
Mishandling the battery shortens the service life and
adds to maintenance costs.
The original battery is maintenance free, but needs
some servicing.
If the battery is weak, the engine will be difficult to start
and the lights will be dim. It is important to check the
battery periodically.
How to read the indicator
1. Check the battery condition by reading the
indicator.
(1) Battery (2) Indicator
State of indicator display
Green
Specific gravity of electrolyte and quality of electrolyte
are both in good condition.
Black Needs charging battery.
White Needs replacing battery.
NOTE :
The factory-installed battery is of non-refillable
type. If the indicator turns white, do not charge
the battery but replace it with a new one.
Checking the battery cable connections
1. Be sure to wire the battery cable as shown in the
following figure.
2. Tighten the terminal until the stopper comes in
contact.

(2) Positive cable
(3) Terminal
(4) Stopper
Charging the battery
WARNING
To avoid personal injury or death:
When the battery is being activated, hydrogen
and oxygen gases in the battery are extremely
explosive. Keep the open sparks and flames
away from the battery at all times, especially
when charging the battery.
When charging the battery, make sure that the
vent caps are securely in place if equipped.
When disconnecting the cable from the battery,
start with the negative terminal first.
When connecting the cable to the battery, start
with the positive terminal first.
Never check the battery charge by placing a
metal object across the posts.
Use a voltmeter or hydrometer.

1. To charge the battery slowly, connect the positive
terminal of battery to the positive terminal of
 PERIODIC SERVICE SERVICE EVERY 100 HOURS
