3. Channel changeover delay
Under certain noise or interference conditions, the ACS system introduces additional delays with respect to
the nominal activation time indicated in para. 4.12.2.2.
• When the ACS intervenes due to noise: the typical channel change takes 2s;
• When the ACS intervenes due to interference: the typical channel change takes 4s;
The difference between noise and interference is defined as follows:
• Noise: Radio frequency disturbances;
• Interference: Other WRS systems that disturb communications by occupying the same frequency
channel and sub-channel, even though it is theoretically possible that this may also be caused by
other high-speed communications systems, such as Wi-Fi
®
.
Since the activation time is increased only when it is necessary to change channels, it is possible to avoid
penalising the working time by setting the failed activation machine alarm threshold to a sufficiently high
value, such as 6 or 10s. In fact, this prevents uneccesary machine down-time, since, in the presence of
interference, the WRS system will continue to try every possible channel change as long as the START
command remains active. In any event, as soon as the system has been activated successfully, the ERROR
signal (see 4.12.8) is deactivated and the machine movements are enabled.
[
N.B.:
In the case of very high noise or interference levels, there is no upper limit for the activation time: If
the noise level is too high with respect to the WRP transmitter signal, it may not be possible to
activate the system at all. In this case it will be necessary to change the channel manually.
