15.5 ICG Limitations
The measurement accuracy may be compromised when patients present with the following
conditions or anomalies:
îš„ Septic shock.
îš„ Aortic valve regurgitation.
îš„ Severe hypertension (MAP>130 mmHg).
 The patient’s weight and height are out of range.
îš„ Connection to an intra-aortic balloon pump.
îš„ With excessive and continuous patient movements such as shivering.
îš„ Signal interference from cable connections and/or power cords.
îš„ Open-heart surgeries that could result in chest expansion blood flow or current changes.
15.6 Preparing to Monitor ICG
1. Insert the ICG module into the monitor.
2. Connect the patient cable to the ICG module.
3. Prepare the patient’s skin and place ICG electrodes on the patient.
4. Connect the ICG sensor connector end to the patient cable.
5. Set up the patient information.
15.6.1 Preparing the Patient
Proper skin preparation is necessary for good signal quality at the sensor, as the skin is a poor
conductor of electricity. To properly prepare the skin, choose flat, non-muscular areas and
then follow this procedure:
1. Shave hair from skin at chosen sites.
2. Gently rub skin surface at sites to remove dead skin cells.
3. Thoroughly cleanse the site with a mild soap and water solution. Be sure to remove all
oily residue, dead skin cells, and abrasives. Leftover abrasion particles can be a source
of noise.
4. Dry the skin completely before applying the sensor.
