Creating an Acuity Volume
If a Host Access Group has not been created, create one. Consult Section 10 for more information.
There are two ways to initiate the creation of an Acuity volume. The first is through the Provisioning tab.
a. On the Provisioning tab, go to the Storage Provisioning view. Under the Acuity Storage section, choose Create
Volume or the Performance QoS tab of the Data Services view.
b. This popup provides a dialog where details such as the Volume Name, associated vPG, Access Group,
Performance Policy, Protection Policy, and Volume Owner are required. The size of the volume is also determined
in this dialog. If the volume is intended to be used as a datastore, ensure Create Datastore has been checked and
Datastore Name has been entered. Click Next.
NOTE: The Check Availability
option will check all ESXi hosts to ensure a unique datastore name.
c. Confirm the details in the dialog and click Create to finalize the volume. Once the procedure is complete, the new
volume will be visible in the Acuity Storage list and can be modified.
NOTE: Volume and datastore names must be fewer than 40 characters and cannot contain any of the following characters:
\
' ; / { * } " : ~ % & @ + = < > ? ` _ ^ #
NOTE: This process can take a significant amount of time, depending on the number and configuration of ESXi hosts, network
connectivity, etc.
