Proactive Diagnostics & Phone Home
Two health monitoring features are available through the Pivot3 vCenter Plugin: Pivot3 Proactive Diagnostics (PPD), which
was installed with the Acuity software platform, and Phone Home, which sends system metadata to pre-defined contacts
for analysis and Support assistance if necessary. While both are diagnostic utilities, they function at different system
levels.

Pivot3 Proactive Diagnostics
Pivot3 Proactive Diagnostics (PPD) is an optional proactive diagnostic component installed in step 4 of the Follow
Installation Wizard for Windows or step 14b in Prepare Environment for Linux. Customers may initiate a Support
agreement that will allow Pivot3 visibility into system functionality for proactive monitoring. Reported information
includes node health, vPG performance, logical volume operational errors, and vSMS reported error diagnostics. No
confidential or secure data is conveyed through this feature, and using it is optional.
When the PPD service is enabled, the status of the current domain will be uploaded to Pivot3 Support approximately once
every 24 hours. Pivot3 will notify the registered contact when there are conditions that may lead to potential data loss or
reduced performance. The PPD service must be enabled on a computer that will have continuous access to both the
domain and the Internet.
NOTE:
PPD is disabled by default and must be enabled before monitoring can begin.
To access the Proactive Diagnostics menu, highlight the Domain level on either the Logical or Physical file tree view
and navigate to Configuration > Proactive Diagnostics.
If an administrator has not been set, a dialog box will pop up asking to set the PPD Pivot3 Domain Administrator to
match the currently logged in Administrator. Click
Yes to continue.
NOTE: If the current Administrator is not the Domain administrator, click No
to log out of this session and log in with a
different Administrator account.
There are four tabs to populate in the Proactive Diagnostics dialog. On the Enable Proactive Diagnostics tab, check
the box next to Enable Proactive Diagnostics. Enter the Proactive Diagnostics ID sent from Pivot3 Support with the
PPD Support agreement and define the Domain administrator.
