affectedby:
•Thephysicalsizeofthereectingobject.
•Thematerialfromwhichtheobjectismade.Metallicsurfaces
reectsignalsbetterthannon-metallic.
•Verticalobjectssuchascliffsreectsignalsbetterthansloping
objectssuchassandbanks.
•Highcoastlinesandmountainouscoastalregionscanbeobserved
atlongerradarranges.Therefore,therstsightoflandmaybea
mountainseveralmilesinlandfromthecoastline.Althoughthe
coastlinemaybemuchnearer,itmaynotappearontheradar
untilthevesselisclosertoshore.
•Sometargets,suchasbuoysandsmallboats,canbedifcult
todiscern,becausetheydonotpresentaconsistentreecting
surfaceastheybobandtossaboutinthewaves.Consequently,
theseechoestendtofadeandbrightenandattimes,todisappear
momentarily.
•Buoysandsmallboatsoftenresembleeachother,butboatscan
oftenbedistinguishedbytheirmotion.
Note:Youwillneedheadingandpositiondataforfullfunctionality
ofyourradar.Afastheadingsensorisalsoneededforoperation
ofMARPAandcanmaximizetheperformanceofradar/chart
overlay.
9.5Dualrangeradaroperation(digital
scannersonly)
DualRangeradaroperationenablesyoutoviewtworangesatthe
sametime,inseparatewindows.
Usingyourmultifunctiondisplayandadigitalradarscanner,you
canvieweitherashortoralongrangeimageinseparateradar
windows.T oallowthis,DualRangemustbeenabledintheRadar
SetupMenu(MENU>RadarSetup>ScannerSetup).
ThedefaultsettingisLong,whichprovidesastandardscanner
range.TheShortsettingprovidesamaximumrangeofthree
nauticalmiles.TheLongrangevaluecannotbelessthanthe
currentShortrangevalue.Forexample,ifShortrangeissetto
3nm,Longrangecannotbelessthan3nm.
Limitations
•DualRangeoperationisnotavailableifMARPAisON.
•YoucannotacquireMARPAtargetsifDualRangeisenabled.
•Chart-syncandchartoverlayaretemporarilydisabledwhenDual
Rangeisenabled.
