10.2AISprerequisites
YoumusthavesuitableAIShardwareconnectedtoyour
multifunctiondisplaytomakeuseoftheAISfunctionality.
InordertorunAIS,youwillneed:
•Areceive-onlyunitorafulltransceiver(aunitthatsendsand
receives).
•AVHFantenna-thisisusuallysuppliedwiththeAISsystem.
•AGPS-toprovidepositiondata.
•ACompass-althoughnotessential,willimprovespeed
calculations.
Note:Areceiverwillallowyoutoreceivedataaboutother
vesselsinyourareabutwillnotallowothervesselsto‘see’you.
AfulltransceivertransmitsandreceivesAISdata,andtherefore
allowsyoutoreceivedataaboutothervessels.Italsoenables
otherAIS-equippedvesselstoseeandreceiveinformationabout
yourvessel.Thiscouldincludeposition,course,speedandrate
ofturndata.
WhentheAISunitisconnectedtoyourmultifunctiondisplay,the
statusoftheunitisindicatedbyanAISiconinthetransducerdata
box.
Youwillnowneedtospecifythe38,400baudsetting(Menu>
SystemSetup>SystemIntegration>NMEAPortSetting)forthe
NMEAportthatcommunicateswiththeAIStransceiverorreceiver.
