cleaned with a wet cloth.
9.2 Decontaminating the Tubing Set
9.2.1 Contamination by Biofilm
During processes that run over long periods of time (periods of more than
one week), the inside of the tubes becomes contaminated by a biofilm. This
biofilm causes the tubing sets to become increasingly blocked and leads to
fluctuating and inaccurate readings. This particularly applies to the storage
tanks, which are constantly being filled with new, diluted “ready-to-use”
transport solutions.
To prevent the transmission of microbes, the almost empty storage tanks
must be completely replaced by new storage tanks with fresh solution.
During some cultivation processes that run over long periods of time, the
biofilm also forms in the disposal line and the drip chamber. In this case, too, it
is necessary to replace the disposal tank regularly. This prevents the disposal
line from being permanently filled with “waste”.
The disposal tank can be protected by also filling it with a disinfectant
solution.
