4.3.3 Protection from interference
Interference by lasers
L
aser sources located close to the machine can interfere with the device and thereby
reduce the availability of the machine.
Measures to increase availability:
b
Do not point laser scanners and other laser sources directly at the illumination
unit of the camera system.
b
Mount the camera system and laser scanner in such a way that the scan plane of
the laser scanner is at least 10cm away from the camera system.
b
Mount the camera system and other laser source 10cm apart, at a slight angle, or
tilted.
b
Set multiple sampling to the highest value permitted in the application, taking the
minimum distances into account.
Interference from strong light sources
St
rong external light sources in the detection zone can interfere with the device and
thereby reduce the availability of the machine.
Measures to increase availability:
b
Avoid halogen spotlights and infrared light sources in the detection zone.
b
Avoid direct sunlight in the detection zone.
Interference from retroreflectors
St
rong retroreflectors in the field of view can interfere with the device and thereby
reduce the availability of the machine.
Measures to increase availability:
b
For mobile applications, avoid using retroreflectors in the driving area and in the
area adjacent to the vehicle path.
b
Set multiple sampling to the highest value permitted in the application, taking the
minimum distances into account.
Interference from smoke, fumes and dust
Smok
e, fumes and dust in the detection zone can interfere with the device and thereby
reduce the availability of the machine.
Measures to increase availability:
b
If possible, install the device in an elevated location and point it towards the floor.
b
Avoid air convection and dust movement directly in front of the front screens, e.g.,
by setting the device back.
b
Regularly check the front screens for contamination.
b
Regularly clean the front screens.
Interference from objects in the near range
Ob
jects in the near range of the camera sensor can interfere with the device due to
strong scattered light and thereby reduce the availability of the machine.
Measures to increase availability:
b
Keep the illuminated area in the immediate vicinity of the device free of objects,
cables, cladding, etc.
