Boom Section 5 – Procedures
5.4-7 Operating Machine Functions from
the Base Controls
CAUTION
There is a risk of personal injury or equipment
damage if repositioning boom with platform
removed. Use base controls with auxiliary power
(engine off) to reposition safely.
If boom repositioning is necessary with the
platform removed, reconnect the two cable harness
connectors to the platform control box.

IMPORTANT
If boom repositioning is necessary during this
procedure, select emergency power position from
start–function enable–emergency power switch,
then activate desired boom function.
When operating on auxiliary power, do not
operate more than one function at a time to avoid
overloading the 12-volt auxiliary pump motor.
IMPORTANT
Be aware that the short length of control cables
connected to the platform control box limits boom
movement.
5.4-8 Fly Boom Removal
CAUTION
There is a risk of personal injury or equipment
damage if repositioning boom with the platform
removed. Use the base controls.
NOTE
In this procedure, the extension cylinder is
removed with the fly boom. If removing the
extension cylinder only, refer to 5.4-13 Extension
Cylinder Removal.
Use the base controls to operate the boom functions.
If repositioning is required, reconnect the two 24-pin
harnesses to the platform control box. Pull the e-stop
button out.
Preparation:
â–ª
Extend the fly boom slightly to provide better
access to the wear pads. Make sure the main
boom is in a horizontal position in order to slide
the fly boom out.
â–ª
Return the main power disconnect switch to the
off position and lock it out after repositioning the
boom.
Procedure:
1. Place wood blocking between the cable/hose
tube and the e-chain track to support it when the
fly boom is removed. Use a strap to secure it in
place.
2. Mark and disconnect the slave cylinder hoses
on the top of the fly boom tip. Provide a suitable
container or rags to catch any oil spillage. Cap
hoses and ports to prevent contamination.
3. Remove the fasteners securing the cable/hose
tube to the fly boom.
