Section 5 – Procedures Turret
4. Support the boom with an overhead crane or
other suitably rated supporting device. Do not lift
the boom.
5. Turn the main power disconnect switch to the off
position .
6. Loosen the mounting fastener

on the swing
drive motor.
7. Push the swing drive motor towards the center
of the turret as close as possible (this will push
the rotation gear into the rotation bearing).
8. Loosen the lock nut on the adjustment bolt

.
9. Tighten the adjustment bolt clockwise until it
contacts the plate of the gearbox.
10. Turn the adjustment bolt 1/2 turn
counterclockwise, then tighten the lock nut on
adjustment bolt.
11. Pull the swing drive motor away from turret until
it contacts the adjustment bolt.
12. Tighten mounting fasteners on swing drive
motor.
13. Unlock the turret lock pin.
14. Turn main power disconnect switch to the ON
position .
15. Rotate the turret through an entire rotation and
check for a smooth rotation of the turret.
16. Adjust the adjustment bolt until smooth rotation
of the turret is achieved.
17. Unsecure the riser boom and lower the boom.
5.5-3 Swing Drive Motor Removal
The swing drive motor is located near the center of
the turret, underneath the riser/main boom.
WARNING
Ensure that there are no personnel or obstructions
in the test area and there is sufficient room for the
boom to swing and elevate.
1. Ensure the MEWP is on a firm level surface.
WARNING
The operator must lock the turret to the base to
prevent the turret from turning spontaneously.

2. Lock the turret to base with the turret locking pin

3. Raise the riser boom to access the swing drive
motor.
4. Support the boom with an overhead crane or
other suitable rated supporting device. Do not lift
the boom.
5. Turn the main power disconnect switch to the off
position .
6. Label the hydraulic hoses connected to the
swing drive and then disconnect the hoses from
the motor. Plug or cap the hoses and fittings to
prevent hydraulic contamination.
7. Loosen the adjustment bolt

and remove the
mounting fasteners

from the swing drive
motor.
8. Use a lifting device attached to the swing drive
lifting lugs
4
to lift the swing drive out. Set the
swing drive aside.
