Boom Section 5 – Procedures
8. Place a lifting strap that straddles the boom
under the rod end of the cylinder. Lift it lightly to
tighten the strap.

9. Remove the pin keeper and drive out the rod
end pin.
10. Lower the cylinder onto the wood blocking, then
reposition the sling to the base end. Lift it lightly
to tighten the strap.
11. Remove the pin keeper and drive out the base-
end pin.
12. Lower the cylinder so that it is resting on the
riser. Reposition the sling to the outside of the
boom.
13. Lift and guide the cylinder out through the
platform end of the riser assembly.Main Boom
5.4-16 Lift Cylinder Installation
1. Attach the lifting sling to the cylinder. Lift and
guide it into the riser assembly from the platform
end of the machine.
2. Lower the cylinder so the base end rests on
the riser and the rod end rests on the wood
blocking.
3. Change the position of the lifting sling so it can
lift the cylinder while straddling the main boom.
4. Install the base-end pin first. Install the pin and
pin keeper.
5. Lower the cylinder down on the wood blocking
to reposition the lifting sling.
6. Lift the cylinder rod end up to install the pin.
Install the rod end pin and pin keeper.
7. Reconnect the hydraulic hoses.
