Axles Section 5 – Procedures
5.10 Axles
5.10-1 Change the Oil in the Axles
1. Place a suitable container under the axle.
2. Remove the fill plug.
3. Remove all three drain plugs to allow the oil to
drain into the container.

4. Reinstall all of the drain plugs.
5. Remove the check plug.
NOTE
The axle is full when oil is leaking from the check
port.
6. Refill the axle with new oil as per the
specifications Refer to 2.11 Hydraulic
Specifications & Gear Oil.
7. Reinstall both of the fill and check plugs.
5.10-2 Check the Oil Level in the Torque
Hubs
1. Drive the MEWP to rotate the hub until the plug
is in the 3 or 9 o’clock position. Shut off the
engine.
2. Remove the plug and check the oil level. The oil
level should be even with the bottom of the plug
hole. Add oil if needed. Refer to 2.11 Hydraulic
Specifications & Gear Oil for oil specifications.

5.10-3 Change the Oil in the Torque Hubs
1. Start the engine and drive the boom until the fill/
drain port of one of the hubs is in the 6 o’clock
position. Shut off the engine. Place a container
under the fill/drain port.
2. Remove the plug and allow all of the oil to drain,
watching carefully to avoid spills.
3. Restart the engine and drive the boom until the
drain plug is in the 3 or 9 o’clock position. Shut
off the engine.
4. Refill the hub with new oil as per specifications.
Refer to 2.11 Hydraulic Specifications & Gear Oil.
5. Repeat the above steps with the other three
wheel hubs.
