These tips apply to the ClearPath-EC, IP66K/IP67 rated motors
discussed in this document.
9 Avoid Right-Angle M12 Cable Connectors! Teknic strongly
discourages the use of right-angle M12 connectors with your ClearPath-
EC motors because even a relatively small lever force applied to a right
angle M12 connector can cause irreparable damage to the motor's on-
body connectors.
9 Tightening M12 Connectors. For a reliable seal, tighten the M12
communication and power cables between 0.8Nm-1.4Nm. Tip: When
M12 cable connectors are properly tightened, there should be no more
than 1-2 threads visible on the motor connectors.
9 Remove DC Bus Power whenever connecting/disconnecting a power
cable from your motor's power connector. Removing power will prevent
electrical arcing from damaging the motor pins and cable contacts over
time.
9 Small Noise at Power Up? Your ClearPath motor will make a brief (<1
sec.) buzzing sound upon first power up as the motor initializes itself.
This is normal and necessary.
9 Motor Killer! Never reverse DC Bus Motor Power polarity (positive vs.
negative) to your ClearPath motor. Doing so will irreparably damage the
motor.
9 USB Cables. If you are having USB communication problems, verify that
you are using a USB-IF certified cable to communicate with your
ClearPath-EC motor. Teknic USB cables
are USB-IF certified. Need

9 Cover Your Motor's USB-IR Port when not in use. This will help prevent
IR communication issues caused by dust and debris buildup on the IR
port.
9 Auto-Tune Your Motor Fully Loaded. Always run Auto-Tune with your
ClearPath-EC motor coupled to the mechanical system, exactly as it will
run during normal machine operation. Note: The default motor tuning file
that comes with your motor is designed for no-load operation
.
9 Don't Operate Under Water. The sealed ClearPath complies with the
IP66K/IP67 rating but is not designed to be operated submerged.
