Chapter 7 Software Setup
7.1. Requirements
To operate the OSA, you need to have a computer that meets the following requirements:
Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements
• Operating System: Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 10 (64-bit)
• High-Speed USB 3.0 Port
• Minimum Monitor Resolution: 800 x 600 Pixels
• Processor: Intel Core i5 or AMD Athlon II
• 8 GB RAM
• .NET Framework 4.7.2 or Higher
For optimal performance, Thorlabs suggests the following configuration:

• High-Speed USB 3.0 Port
• Processor: Intel Core i9 or AMD Athlon Ryzen
• 16 GB RAM
• .NET Framework 4.7.2 or Higher
You will also need a USB cable qualified for the high-speed USB 3.0 standard (a suitable cable is included with
the instrument).
Note: Do not connect the OSA to your PC before the software has been completely installed.
7.2. Software Installation
The Thorlabs OSA software is shipped with a laptop with all required drivers and software pre-installed. If you
wish to install the software on another computer or need to re-install the software, please follow the instructions
below.
Thorlabs’ website (https://www.thorlabs.com/software_pages/ViewSoftwarePage.cfm?Code=Redstone)
offers an installation package which will install all the necessary software. Follow the on-screen instructions to
do so. A prompt may appear asking to change to “elevated mode;” please ask your system administrator if you
do not have administrator privileges.
