51-72-01 Small damage
Repair of damage just by application of mastic and by varnish repair.
Preparatory Grinding
DANGER Explosion hazard due to abrasive dust.
▶ Remove adhesive and dope only in explosion proof rooms with
exhaustion device.
WARNING Poisoning hazard due to abrasive dust.
▶ Wear externally ventilated protective clothing, protective goggles,
chemical resistant gloves and respiratory mask when removing
adhesive and dope.
▶ For a good adhesion of repair layers carry out surface sanding at the
utmost up to the depth of contact with the stiffener (do not damage).
▶ Sand the surface with an overrun of 51 mm (2 in) from the damage
location smoothly to the top layer.
▶ Sand with a grain size of 160.
▶ Use dry sanding equipment with suction from the sanding area.
▶ Use Al2O3 or equivalent (fused corundum) as sanding material.
Dust Removal
▶ Wipe with clean and dry brush or use a vacuum cleaner.
Application of Smoothing Layer
▶ Prepare the mixture and its eventual thickening, to enhance the non-
curtaining capability (for vertical or lower areas).
▶ Apply onto the repair area by means of a plastic spatula.
▶ For better distribution of deposited material on an irregular surface,
form it through the laid PE or PP transparent polyethylene.
▶ Ensure layer is without bubbles.
Deposit thickness is given by necessary thickness of surrounding
layers (leveling) and ranges from 0.2 to 12.7 mm (0.008 to 0.5 in) in
one deposit.
