4. Press the Auto button to begin recording elevations. Turn on the
Beeper alarm to verify the System Five records readings (see
“Beeper Alarm” on page 2-29 for details).
• When turning at the ends of the field, press the Auto button
to pause recording.
• Once straightened out after the turn, press the Auto button
to resume recording.
5. To create a survey map, write down the Control Box elevation
readings every 100 feet or so while crossing the field
(Figure 4-11). Once you complete the survey, create a cut/fill
map to help with land-leveling (Figure 4-12 on page 4-13).

6. When you have completed the serpentine survey, press the
Auto button to stop recording elevations.
7. Press the ELEV/AVG button to view the field’s average
elevation and record the number.
8. After completing the survey, establish an elevation grade
reference before moving the laser transmitter. See “Setting
Grade Reference Points” on page 3-14 for details.
