TheFieldPro6040machineusesafusiblelinkforcircuitprotection.Thefusible
linkislocatedinaharnessthatconnectsthebatterypositivecable(atthestarter
B+terminal)tothemachinewireharness.Ifthelinkfails,currenttothehour
meter/controller,keyswitch,andstartrelayisinterrupted.Afusiblelinkharness
failurewillrenderthemachinecontrolandchargecircuitspowerless;referto
AppendixA(pageA–1)foradditionalcircuitinformation.
TestingtheFusibleLinkHarness
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,loweranyattachmentstotheground,
engagetheparkingbrake,setthekeyswitchtotheOFFpositionandremove
thekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Disconnectthenegativebatterycablefromthebatteryterminal,andthen
disconnectthepositivecablefromthebattery;refertoRemovingand
InstallingtheBattery(page6–29).
3.Locateandunplugthefusiblelinkconnectorfromthemachinewireharness
(rightsideofengine).Checktheharnessconnectorsfordamageorcorrosion
andcleanorrepairifnecessary.
4.Useamultimetertoensurethatthecontinuityexistsacrossthefusiblelink
harnessconnectorandthefusiblelinkharnessringterminal.Replacethe
fusiblelinkharnessifnecessary.
5.Afteryoucompletethetesting,ensurethatthefusiblelinkharnessconnectors
arecorrectlyattachedtothestarterandmachinewireharness.
6.Connectthepositivebatterycabletothe(+)batteryterminalandthen
connectthenegativecabletothebattery.Coatthebatterycableconnectors
andthefusiblelinkringterminalwithbatteryterminalprotector;referto
BatteryTerminalProtector(page2–17).
