Excessive water consumption rnay
be
an indication that
the voltage regulator requires resetting. The specific
gravity of the electrolyte should
be
checked periodically
and maintained
within
the limits placarded on the battery.
The battery box is vented overboard to dispose
· of
electrolyte and hydrogen gas fumes discharged during the
normal charging operation.
To
ensure disposal of these
fumes the vent tube should be checked frequently for
obstructions and should
be
kept open.
