12 Appendix 7. MicroDroplet Tool Manual
12.1 Print Head Overview
MicroDroplet Tool is a solenoid valve actuated dosing system (Figure 11), enabling precision dosing
of droplets in the range from 10 µL to 1000 µL. MicroDroplet Tool Heated print head includes a
heating jacket to heat the syringe barrel from RT to up to +66 °C at an accuracy of ± 0.5 °C.
MicroDroplet Tool can be used to dispense various liquids, e.g., cell suspension, cell media, drugs,
growth factors, and crosslinking agents. The dosing volume can be adjusted as a function of pressure,
material viscosity and the opening time of the solenoid valve. The transparent polycarbonate channel
plate permits visual inspection of the channel. The standard nozzle has a length of 30 mm and an
internal diameter of 0.32 mm.
12.2 Getting the Print Head Ready for Printing
Fill the syringe barrel [1] with the dispensable material and insert a piston to assure an even
distribution of the air pressure. Insert the barrel into the channel plate by twisting it in its place [2].
Cap the syringe barrel with the nozzle [3].
Attach the pressure hose by twisting the pressure connector [4] to the syringe barrel. Make sure that
the pressure hose is tightly attached to the pressure connector on the print head [5].
The MicroDroplet Tool is now ready for printing.
