2.2.4 Status LEDs in the Operating Display of the Controller
The two virtual status LEDs (NETWORK and MODULE) in the oper-
ating display of the ekrCON600 net controller show the current
status of the corresponding status LEDs on the Profibus interface
module. This allows you to check the status of the network and
module status LEDs without opening the controller housing.

A description of the two status LEDs can be found in the chapters
Network Status LEDs, page 11 and Module Status LEDs, page 11.
2.3 Process Data Exchange via Profibus
2.3.1 Fundamentals
The communication between the ekr CON 600 net web guiding
controller and the customer control system is based on the
Profibus standard. Profibus (Process Field Bus) is a standard for
fieldbus communication in automation technology. Profibus en-
ables the communication of devices from different manufacturers
without special interface adaptations.
Profibus allows the connection of decentralized peripherals to a
controller. Profibus describes the entire data exchange between
the devices with control or closed-loop control functionality
(Master) and the field devices (Slaves) for the cyclic process data
exchange as well as for parameterization and diagnosis.
The data exchange between the Profibus Master and the Slaves is
predominantly cyclic. The communication functions required for
this are defined by the Profibus-DP basic functions. In addition to
these basic functions, DP also offers acyclic communication ser-
vices (DPV1 functions).
This description assumes that the basic functioning of the
Profibus communication method is known.
