14/79 ekr CON 600 net – Process Data Exchange via Profibus
2.3.3 Process Data Structure
Two different types of data traffic are used for the communication
between the Profibus Master (customer control system) and the
Slave (ekrCON600net web guiding controller):
Data Traffic Utilisation
Cyclic data traffic
High-speed exchange of process data
(real-time data)
Acyclic data traffic
Parameterization of the controller,
status requests, device identifications, …
2.3.3.1 Cyclic Data Traffic
The data exchange between the Profibus class1 master and the
slaves is mainly cyclic. The necessary communication functions are
established by the Profibus-DP basic functions.
The cyclic data traffic is used for the real-time exchange of process
data. The cyclic data traffic between the Profibus class1 master
(customer control system) and the slaves assigned to it (e.g.
ekrCON600net web guiding controller) is automatically handled
by the master in a specified, recurring sequence. When configur-
ing the bus system, the user defines the affiliation of a slave to the
Profibus class1 master (DPM1). Furthermore it is defined which
slaves are included and which are excluded from the cyclic useful
data traffic.
The data traffic between the Profibus class 1 master and the
slaves is divided into the parameterization, configuration and data
transfer phases. Before a Profibus slave is included into the data
transfer phase, the master checks during the parameterization
and configuration phases whether or not the planned target con-
figuration complies with the actual device configuration. To pass
this test, the device type, the format and length information as
well as the number of inputs and outputs must tally. The user thus
is securely protected against parameterization errors.
In addition to the description in this document, the data that is
cyclically exchanged between the ekr CON 600 net web guiding
controller and the customer control system is also described in
the supplied GSDML file (see GSD File, page 19).
